The Whole Sofa
It’s film night, and Iggy has the whole sofa. For now.
Film night! Iggy got to the sofa first, with the popcorn. He lay down from one end to the other. The whole sofa. All of it. His. Perfect.
In came Dad with his cup of tea. “Budge up, Iggy!” Iggy budged up. Just a bit.
In came Pia with her pillow and her quilt. “Budge up, Iggy!” Iggy budged up. A bit more.
In came Meatball. Meatball didn’t say “Budge up.” He climbed over Dad, and over Pia, and sat down… right in the popcorn.
Then in came Nonna. “Budge up, everybody!” She sat down in the middle. PLOP! Everybody went up in the air. And Iggy came down…
…on the floor. “That’s MY sofa!” said Iggy. “Shh,” said everybody. “It’s starting.”
Iggy had an idea. “Who wants more popcorn?” “Me!” said Dad, and off he went. That was one.
“Meatball, where’s your ball?” Meatball shot off to look for it. That was two.
“Pia! Nonna’s got the cookie tin out!” “Have I?” said Nonna. Off went Pia to find it. And off went Nonna too. That was everybody.
Iggy climbed back up. He lay down from one end to the other. The whole sofa. All of it. His. It was quiet. It was big. It was a bit cold, actually.
Back came Dad with the popcorn. Back came Meatball with his ball. Back came Pia and Nonna with the whole cookie tin. They looked at Iggy. Iggy looked at them.
“Budge up, everybody!” said Iggy. And he sat on Nonna.
